GATE 2021: Application, Dates, Eligibility, Exam Pattern, Syllabus

gate 2021Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2021) is one of the national level entrance examination. It is conducted jointly by Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore & one of the IITs on behalf of the NCB-GATE, Department of Higher Education, MHRD, Government of India. The exam is a gateway to get admission and/or financial assistance to master’s programs and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering/Technology/Architecture and Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Science, in the institutions supported by the MHRD and other Government agencies. Through this article, candidates will get the complete information of GATE 2021.

GATE 2021 Application Form

Candidates must go through the application guidelines which are given below before proceeding for the application form filling:

  • Candidates have to register and fill the application form through online mode at GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS).
  • The online GATE 2021 application form will be started from first week of September 2020.
  • Candidates also have to upload the certificates/ documents, etc. in online mode only.
  • The application form can be filled till fourth week of September 2020.
  • The photograph, signature, certificate of qualifying degree, category certificate (SC/ST/PwD) and/or Dyslexic certificate, wherever applicable, must be uploaded during the online application.
  • Candidate can appear only in one paper.
  • The candidates should not send any hard copy of application form/documents etc. to the conducting institution or any of the zonal GATE offices.

Application Fee:

  • The fee can be paid in electronic mode.
  • The application fee will be neither refundable nor transferable.
  • Payments have to be made online by using either net banking or debit card or credit card.

GATE 2021 Application Form Correction

The official authority will provide the correction facility through online mode. The correction will be provided in some fields only.

Candidates have to rectify the defects in the application before the stipulated deadline. The application form correction can be done till third week of November 2020.

Failing to rectify the defects within the stipulated time can lead to the rejection of the application and no further communication will be entertained in this regard.

GATE 2021 Eligibility Criteria

Here, candidates can check the GATE eligibility criteria for various programmes:

Note: Candidates who have obtained/are pursuing their qualifying degree from countries other than India:

  • Must have completed or are in the final year of their Bachelor’s degree (duration: at least 4 years) in Engineering/Technology.
  • Must have completed or are in the final year of their Post Graduate (Master’s) degree. (duration: at least 2 years) in any relevant subjects in science.

GATE 2021 Exam Pattern

Here, candidates can check the complete GATE exam pattern for 2021 entrance exam:

  • Mode: The exam will be conducted in online (CBT) mode.
  • Papers: The exam will be conducted for 25 subjects (referred to as “papers”).
  • Type of Questions: The questions will of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ).
  • Duration of Exam: The exam will be of total 3 hours.
  • Maximum marks: The question paper will be 100 marks.
  • No. of Questions: The question paper will consist of 65 questions.
  • Marking Scheme: For MCQs and NATs, various questions will be of 1 or 2 marks. In MCQs of 1 mark, 1/3 marks will be deducted for wrong responses. For MCQs of 2 mark, 2/3 marks will be deducted for incorrect answers. There will be no negative marking for numerical type questions.

 Note: There will be NO negative marking for a wrong answer in NAT questions.

GATE 2021 Syllabus

The syllabus for the GATE 2021 will be provided by the official authority. Here, we have given the syllabus for few subjects.

Bio-medical Engineering (BM): Engineering Mathematics, Signals and Systems, Electrical Circuits, Measurements and Control Systems, Analog and Digital Electronics, Sensors and Bioinstrumentation, Measurements and Control Systems, Biomechanics, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Biomaterials, Medical Imaging Systems.

Architecture and Planning (AR): Architecture and Design, Construction and Management, Building Materials, Environmental Planning and Design, Building and Structure, etc.

Mathematics (MA): Linear Algebra, Algebra, Complex Analysis, Functional Analysis, Real Analysis, Numerical Analysis, etc.

Electronics and Communication Engineering (EC): Engineering Mathematics, Networks, Electronic Devices, Signals and Systems, Digital Circuits, Analog Circuits, etc.

Chemical Engineering (CH): Process Calculations and Thermodynamics, Engineering Mathematics, Fluid Mechanics and Mechanical Operations, etc.

Instrumentation Engineering (IN): Engineering Mathematics, Signals and Systems, Electrical Circuits, Control Systems, etc.

Petroleum Engineering (PE): Linear Algebra, Petroleum Formation Evaluation, Oil and Gas Well Testing, etc.

Civil Engineering (CE): Engineering Mathematics, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, etc.

Statistics (ST): Calculus, Probability, Linear Algebra, Inference, Stochastic Processes, Multivariate Analysis, Design of Experiments & Regression Analysis.

GATE 2021 Preparation Tips

Here, candidates can check some preparation tips to score well in the examination:

  • First of all, go through the complete syllabus, marking pattern and exam pattern of the examination.
  • Make a schematic study time table and follow it on a regular basis.
  • Go through best seller books for GATE 2021 preparation.
  • Solve previous year question papers and sample papers provided by the various coaching institutions.
  • Take online mock tests to know the pattern of question paper.
  • Maintain your health and do not take stress during exam preparation. Do some yoga and meditation.

FAQ’s (Most Asked Questions)

Answer: No, it will be released only through online mode.
Answer: Candidate can apply for only one of the 25 papers listed in the GATE information brochure.
Answer: Yes, category change request will be entertained till 1st week of November 2020. Any request after this date will not be considered.
Answer: Yes. The request for the change of GATE examination paper will be entertained only after payment. A specific time period will be given by the authority.
Answer: No. One e-mail Id can be used to submit only one application form.
Answer: No, the category certificate is required only for Indian nationals (appearing from exam centres within India), who wishes to avail a concession in application fee.
Answer: No. The printout of the application form is not required to be sent to the Organizing Institute or any other GATE zonal offices.
Answer: You should submit final year marksheet (of any one semester), even if there are backlogs/ arrears in some subjects.
Answer: If a candidate is in the final year of the qualifying degree program, a Certificate from the Head of the Department/ Institute can be uploaded.

GATE 2021 Admit Card

The GATE 2021 admit card would be available through online mode on GOAPS website. No printed copy of the admit cards will be released by the authority.

The candidates have to appear at the examination centre on the date and time specified in the admit card. No request for any changes in the centre or date/time specified in the admit card will be entertained.

The admit card will be available for download from 1st week of January 2021. Candidates should carry printout of the downloaded admit card to the examination for the verification along with the original and valid photo Identity proof.

GATE 2021 Answer Key

After the GATE 2021 examinations, candidates’ responses will be available at GOAPS. Candidates can get it by entering their login details.

GATE answer keys for various papers will be displayed in GATE website. Candidates may submit their queries on the answer keys in a given time period after the payment. Evaluation of examination papers will be finalized and score will be released.

GATE 2021 Result

GATE results will be released by the official authority in the 3rd week of March 2021. It will be available on the GATE 2021 website.

Candidates can get the result by entering their login details. It will show the qualifying status of the candidate. It is necessary to keep the result till the admission process gets over.

GATE 2021 Score Card

The GATE score card will show the relative performance of the candidate in a particular subject. GATE 2021 score will be valid for 3years from the date of announcement of the results.

The GATE 2021 scorecards can be downloaded between third week of March to last week of May 2021.

The GATE scorecard will be printed with the photograph that candidate has submitted at the time of filing application form. GATE qualified candidates have to pay a fee of Rs. 500 those want to get a soft copy of his/her GATE Scorecard after last week of May 2021.

GATE 2021 Cut Off

GATE 2021 Counselling

The Centralized Counseling for M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan. will be organized by the CCMT 2021. The admission will be offered based on candidate’s GATE score of years 2019, 2020 and 2021, in all universities & colleges.

To participate in the counselling, candidates have to pay the counselling registration fee. The process for centralized admission to postgraduate programs will start from second week of April 2021.

The counselling process will be comprised of three stages that are online Registration, Choice Filling and Locking of Choices, Online Seat Allotment, Seat Acceptance fee deposit and Physical Reporting at a Reporting Center (RC) and Getting Admitted to Allotted Institute.

GATE 2021 Admission

After appearing in the counselling successfully, the candidates can download their Provisional Admission Letter (PAL). Candidates have to report physically at the allotted institute for admission.

The candidates have to report with DVC issued by the RC and PAL downloaded from the CCMT-2021 website. They also have to carry the other documents notified by the respective institutes in their website.

Before reporting to allotted institute, the candidates will have to pay balance admission fee (if applicable) in the mode prescribed by the respective institutes in their website.
